Health & Safety Benefits of Grass Fed Beef

 

Lower in Fat & Calories - Switching to grass fed beef from conventional feedlot beef can save you 17,733 calories per year-without requiring any willpower or change in your eating habits.

 

Higher in Omega 3 - These are good fats that play a vital role in every cell in your body; essential for brain function too.

 

Higher in CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid)- Another good fat,

a good defense against many types of cancer.

 

Higher in Vitamin A -The meat from grass fed animals has more Vitamin A than feedlot raised animals. Rather than taking a supplement that you would have to try to absorb, as your body rejects it by flushing it out of your system. Your body readily absorbs the Vitamin A that it retrieves from the delicious cuts of grass fed beef. Sometimes when you receive your grass fed beef in the spring, you will see the evidence of this in the yellow color of the fat. Now you will also know that the yellow color of the fat is actually good for you.

 

Higher in Vitamin E - The meat from grass fed cattle has been shown to be as much as four times higher in Vitamin E than feedlot cattle. This antioxidant is very important because it can reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease. With grass fed beef the Vitamin E is readily absorbed, unlike some supplements that are just flushed out of the system.

TO PROVIDE TOP QUALITY BEEF

CROSSBRED MIXED ANGUS AND GELBIEV , Angus stock is well known as a great producer of delicious beef, and gelbiev has a quiet temperament and are notorious for being a more lean type of beef. 

TO PROVIDE THE LEAST STRESSFUL ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR HERD  

HUMAN CONTACT;  We visit the pastures daily so working with them is not as stressful, and calves are not removed for weaning .

LIMIT CHEMICALS;  We do not vaccinate unless one is sick, and we do not under any circumstances use growth hormones.  We don’t even feed grain, just hay grown and harvested by us on our own farm. 

This ensures that the beef you receive is the most natural you can get.

TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THE LAND

EXTENSIVE GRAZING STRUCTURE;  that not only conserves pasture but also equalizes manure distribution, manure being fertilizer, so we don’t need to use chemical fertilizer’s. 

MINIMIZES PESTS (flies) by removing the host from the pasture before the larvae hatch from the manure. 

ECOLOGICAL IMPACT; yet another benefit to this process is that we have to put up less hay to maintain the herd, thereby reducing the ecological impact of fuel emissions. 

 

In short, we run our farm as nature intended so you know that what you are feeding your famly is a top quality beef product. 

Get it straight from our farm to your plate!

 

Beef is generally sold using three weights for a calf:

live calf on the hoof 

dressed (carcass weight, hanging weight); and packaged (processed into the cuts normally seen at the retail meat market).

The dressed weight (the calf is skinned and eviscerated) is about 62% of live weight.  The packaged weight is about 50% of live weight. Our charges are currently $2.00 per pound live weight.  We will haul your live calf after purchase to our local processor.  We will take a cut sheet with them to let the processor know what cuts you prefer.  The remainder of the beef will be ground up into hamburger.  You can ask for bones and organs if you wish.  Our local processor is Heatherington’s, located just three miles to the east of our farm. It makes for a short stress free ride for your beef calf.
